The Palestinian Authority is reported to have rejected a $50 billion incentive to make peace with Israel as the economic aspect of President Trump’s ‘Deal of the Century’ was unveiled.
The offer is in exchange for little more than accepting Israel’s right to exist and agreeing to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
But the PA – said to be close to bankruptcy – has dismissed it as a reaffirmation of Washington’s support for the Jewish state.
The financial crisis is perhaps explained by the fact that rewards to terrorists and their families continue unabated while its own employees are only paid half their salaries.
PA leader Mahmoud Abbas was earlier offered $10 billion by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to accept Mr Trump’s peace plan, but rejected it because it would “mean the end of my political life”.
