Archbishop Sentamu experiences some of the Prayer Spaces with students at the Venerable Bede Academy during the ‘Talking Jesus’ mission
‘Talking Jesus’, a Gospel outreach in the Diocese of Durham, involved 25 Anglican bishops, the Archbishop of York and hundreds of volunteers across the north-east from 2 – 5 March. Tens of thousands of people were involved in 450 events including pie and peas suppers, semaphore flag flying and conversations in pubs, cafes and drop-in centres. A flash mob at Tesco in Newton Aycliffe, broadcast live on Facebook, attracted more than 3,500 viewers.
At a packed closing celebration in Durham Cathedral, the Bishop of Durham declared the mission a resounding success. Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, challenged the congregation to carry on spreading the word: “Go and talk about Jesus this week – not the weather (although in Durham you get a lot of it!)”
