We now have a government with very politically correct
credentials that will align with our ‘woke’ establishment.

That’s why, says, Andrew Baguley, the West and Britain herself are so cloaked

In 1965 Mary Whitehouse said, “The enemies of the West saw that Britain was the kingpin of western civilisation: she had proved herself unbeatable on the field of battle because of her faith and her character. If Britain was to be destroyed, those things must be undercut.”

She was spot on in terms of what was going on. An unstoppable tide of Marxist ideology and antisemitism has undercut our faith and national character.

The public enemies are now (i) White heterosexual males and (ii) Christians and the Church.

Elections and manifesto commitments give way to rule by the mob and the demands of whoever can shout loudest or demonstrate most forcefully

Steve Maltz, in his excellent book ‘Noise’1 suggests a number of other ways that true British values have been subverted as discussed later.

Cultural Marxism, like many things which challenge Judeo-Christian ethics and evangelical theology, has its roots in Germany and the ‘Frankfurt School’ of thought.

However, we also know that the roots of man’s rebellion against God go back to the Garden of Eden as recorded in Genesis 3 and the outbreak of a spiritual war between God (in Christ Jesus) and Satan (the serpent).

The ‘threefold lie’ of the serpent in Genesis 3 is the basis of Satan’s continued attack on the people of God (both Jew and Gentile). The Bible tells us that Satan is a deceiver, a liar, a thief, a killer, a boaster, a fallen angel, the leader of other fallen angels and is the god of this world (Isaiah 14; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2; John 12:31; John 14:30 and John 16:11).

What is Cultural Marxism?

The OED defines it as: “Used depreciatively, chiefly among right-wing commentators: a political agenda advocating radical social reform, said to be promoted within Western cultural institutions by liberal or left-wing ideologues intent on eroding traditional social values and imposing a dogmatic form of progressivism on society. Later also more generally: a perceived left-wing bias in social or cultural institutions, characterised as doctrinaire and pernicious.”2

The birth of Cultural Marxism took place in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1923 within the Institute of Social Research, known later as the Frankfurt School. This, it turned out, became the centre of a conspiracy to bring down Western democracies.

In the 1930s the School’s director, Max Horkheimer, concluded that Western culture’s Judeo-Christian heritage was the major obstacle to the spread of Marxism. So he developed ‘Critical Theory’3 to bring the “current society and culture down through unremitting, destructive criticism.”

The aim is to destroy the Judeo-Christian foundations of society, and it has been very effective. See how this has affected the whole tone of how we approach things:

  • Individualism and individuality are downplayed
  • Rational debate is out of the window

In the early 20th century, Edward Bernays (the “father of public relations”) had used insights from his uncle, Sigmund Freud, to manipulate people’s unconscious desires so they bought advertisers’ products; shopping was no longer simply a matter of need, but of wish fulfilment.

Consumerism, as we now know it, took off, and materialism followed. In turn, Bernays’ ideas were adopted into politics through Critical Theory and the work of the Frankfurt School.

Due to the imminent outbreak of World War 2, the leaders of the Frankfurt School relocated to the USA, and in particular Columbia University (the centre of antisemitic student protests in May 2024) from where by the 1950s Cultural Marxism became mainstream.

The growth in influence of Cultural Marxism in the UK

Your head is probably spinning by now at what is a multi-faceted spiritual attack on you and all fellow believers – and you are trying to see how or even if, this has any connection with the prophetic Scriptures and the rejection of the God of truth and specifically with the confrontation between the Antichrist and Jesus in the tribulation period.

The BBC rejects Christian morality

Let us see if we can simplify what is going on. Steve Maltz calls it “an insidious philosophy” which the following will show. I have another name for it (courtesy of the film of the same name): ‘Pulp Fiction’.

In the UK we have seen the development and rise of Cultural Marxism particularly since the end of World War 2. We also see it in the development and acceptance of Critical Theory and ‘Crisis Theory’ . Marxist cultural theory unmasks contemporary culture, and notably mass culture, as a system of social domination of the individual.4

Broadly, Marxist critique of specifically British culture assumed increasing prominence from 1956, through the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies in Birmingham (hence the common references to a ‘Birmingham School’ of cultural critique) led by Raymond Williams. The British tradition of Marxism, especially over the past 50 to 60 years, has been influenced by theorists.5

“The enemies of the West saw that Britain was the kingpin of western civilisation: she had proved herself unbeatable on the field of battle because of her faith and her character. If Britain was to be destroyed, those things must be undercut”

Mary Whitehouse, 1965

Steve Maltz, in his excellent book, ‘Noise’, suggests a number of other ways in which traditionally British values have been subverted. These include ‘The New Left’, ‘victim culture’, sexual liberty and licentiousness, anarchism, extreme left-wing liberal thinkers, ‘gay rights – LGBTQ’, ‘cancel culture’, CND and ‘peace’ movements, religious intolerance and the destruction of Judeo-Christian heritage, support of Islam, antisemitism and deconstruction of the family and of ‘family values’.

These biases manifest themselves in every aspect of our society, Government and civil service, local government, education, the NHS and banking.

The BBC is perhaps the best example of progressive Cultural Marxism in the UK. Its management is made up of liberal progressives.

We can see this demonstrated most weeks in BBC current affairs programmes, news bulletins and sport. The BBC is enthusiastic for anything that breaks accepted norms, which it calls ‘stereotyping’.

The BBC distorts the news to promote a liberal agenda, says Robert Aitken in his book ‘The Noble Liar’. In the same book he exposes how the BBC rejects Christian morality, but supports Islam by staying silent about serious wrongs emanating from Muslim communities.

The late Sir Roger Scruton said: “Intellectuals are naturally attracted by the idea of a planned society in the belief that they would be in charge of it”. The BBC has been accused of dominating the media by its elitism and the marginalisation of dissidents. It has views on everything and beware if you disagree!

A religious challenge

The challenge to Israel and the Christian Church is centred upon the person and works of God, his choice of Israel as his covenant people, salvation, truth, moral and ethical righteousness and judgement among many other things. The attack is insidious and uses many or all of the tactics shown in the diagram in this piece.

For example, the United Methodist Church in the US has recently lost over one million members due to LGBTQ ideology and the ordination of gay clergy. There is a direct clash between gay ideology and evangelical classical theology as the former is not part of the faith and cannot lead to salvation.

A geo-political challenge

Democracy is under threat as elections and manifesto commitments give way to rule by the mob and the demands of whoever can shout loudest or demonstrate most forcefully.

And since elites (politicians, civil service, diplomats, judges, academics, journalists and the rest) cast themselves in the mould of Plato’s philosopher kings, they believe they are better qualified to decide what should happen than their supposed inferiors.

Cultural Marxism is a huge challenge to the populations of the US and Western nations, although not to their governments, because they have been taken over by this ideology. We are seeing how insidious and evil this is, particularly in the US’s Biden administration’s dealings with Israel.

Cultural Marxism is just another expression and outworking of the antichrist agenda for world domination and the eradication of Israel and Christians

In addition, we can see how Cultural Marxism has taken over the UN, the ICJ (International Court of Justice) and the ICC (International Criminal Court), leading them into constant censuring of Israel and threatened legal action against the Jewish state through lies, propaganda and bribery.

Conclusion

Cultural Marxism is just another expression and outworking of the antichrist agenda for world domination and the eradication of Israel and Christians. Only God can and will stop it and show to the world that Israel’s God is the one true God.

THE EFFECT OF CULTURAL MARXISM ON KEY END-TIMES EVENTS

If the spiritual truths contained in the Bible are downgraded and then denigrated by the nation’s institutions, few will understand the era in which we live. This in turns deprives them of the hope that Christ holds out to us in the darkest of times – and these times are increasingly dark as we approach the end of the age.

These are the key spiritual truths that are under attack, beginning with the very existence and identity of God himself (John 1:1-18): “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God”.

Then there are:

  • The Trinity (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 2:14) and the Gospel (Mark 1:15-16; Matthew 28:16-20; Romans 1:16; Philippians 1:27)
  • The uniqueness of Christ (John 14:1-6; Colossian 1:15-20; Philippians 2:5-11)
  • The Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:1-12; John 18: 36; Luke 17:21, 22:29-30; Romans 14:17)
  • Salvation by faith (Ephesians 2:8; Galatians 2:16; Romans 1:16-17; John 3:16)
  • The one new man (Ephesians 2:15)
  • Covenant (Genesis 5:18; 12:2-3; 17:2; 17:7; 22:16-17; 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Jeremiah 33:21, 31-34)
