Sally Phillips, hosted by The Point at Holy Trinity Church, Hurstpierpoint – January
Actor and comedienne Sally Phillips has starred in numerous TV programmes and films, including the ‘Bridget Jones’ movies and more recently ‘Miranda’ on BBC1.
Visiting us to launch our latest Alpha course, Sally was interviewed by vicar Will Kemp and his wife Caroline, talking about her life, her work and her faith to a packed church.
She revealed that she actually finds it very hard to be in the limelight and so being the centre of attention as herself was quite hard for her – not that you could tell, as she was engaging, warm and of course very funny.
Sally spoke openly about becoming a Christian and how it took a frightening spiritual experience with terrible nightmares to really cause her to look into the Christian faith. After mentioning this to a fellow actor who was a Christian, he then prayed for her and the nightmares stopped immediately. Subsequently she did an Alpha course and came to faith.
Sally was incredibly honest about her life and spoke about how hard she found it when her youngest son was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. She said she even decided to become an atheist again for a while, until she realised that God was still there and she couldn’t ignore him!
