Dying without family – four envelopes and a funeral

This very real concern came to light when a reader called the HEART office to highlight the large number of single occupant households in the UK.

She referred to a front page article in The Sunday Times magazine in 2007: “BY 2021 A THIRD OF US WILL LIVE ALONE – HOW MANY WILL DIE ALONE TOO?”

For those without family to make arrangements, she has recommended preparing four envelopes:

1. WILL/Executor-Informant
2. FUNERAL/ Pre-paid/Other
3. REGISTRAR documents
4. GP details/other
