Now is the time to make your voice heard
Christians in Iraq and Syria are experiencing genocide. Last issue we included a petition for Barnabas Fund’s Operation Safe Haven to send to the Prime Minister.
But until Christians in the Middle East are safe, we need to keep urging our government to work directly with the Christian community. Our Government has refused to take refugees from anywhere but the UN-run camps, which are predominantly Muslim, so Christians have been avoiding the camps and fleeing to safer areas, preferring to camp on church premises.
Now Wilfred Wong, a barrister with 26 years’ experience of campaigning for persecuted Christians worldwide, most of whom live in the Muslim world, has written a letter for readers to use as a model to send to the Prime Minister. Dear Prime Minister,
I write regarding the genocide against Iraq’s and Syria’s Christians by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other Muslim extremists.
This includes systematic extrajudicial executions, beheadings, crucifixions, kidnappings, forced conversions to Islam and the destruction of numerous churches and Christian-owned homes.
Your government is legally obliged under the 1948 Convention on Genocide to swiftly intervene to stop the genocide.
I therefore urge the UK government to swiftly send in ground troops to end this genocide and not leave all the ground fighting against ISIS to poorly trained, inexperienced Kurdish and Shiite militias. ISIS has a well-equipped, established army and another established army is needed to defeat it.
We must defeat ISIS soon, or they will grow much stronger and conduct even larger terrorist attacks in the West.
I ask that your government provide full practical support to the Christian self–defence militias in Iraq and Syria and send humanitarian aid directly to those countries’ Christian communities.
Yours sincerely,
cc (Name of your constituency MP to whom you’re sending a copy of this letter).
