ATHEIST WEDDINGS ON THE RISE
Following the announcement that Ireland will allow atheist weddings for the first time, questions have been raised as to whether the apparent increase in ‘humanist’ weddings, and indeed the secularism of religious sacraments in Scotland will have the same effect on Ireland.
Until this year, those who did not want a religious ceremony could have only a legal function officiated by a magistrate, not a wedding celebration.

Governor Rick Perry of Austin Texas has signed a pro-life bill which prohibits abortion beyond 20 weeks. The new legislation will come into place as a result of new scientific evidence which suggests that babies feel pain from 20 weeks onwards.
In a statement, Perry praised the restriction on abortion, ‘This legislation builds on the strong and unwavering commitment we have made to defend life and protect women’s health.’ It is suggested that 37 of the state’s abortion clinics could close as a result of the new law.

ATHEISTS GET EISENHOWER’S QUOTE BANNED
AN ATHEIST GROUP has succeeded in having a Christian chaplain’s essay banned.
Air Force chaplain Colonel Kenneth Reyes was criticised for ‘devaluing’ atheist servicemen and women after using a famous Eisenhower quote in his blog.
The saying, “No atheists in foxholes: chaplains gave all in World War II,” was originally attributed to a WWII priest and became famous after President Eisenhower used it in a 1954 speech. The atheist organisation, MRFF, pressed for legal action and as a result of the controversy, Reyes’ blog, ‘Chaplain’s Corner’ has been removed from the internet. However, the MRFF continue to insist upon further sanctions.
