Leading evangelical Lorna Ashworth has resigned from the Archbishops’ Council in protest at increasingly liberal attitudes on gay issues.

One of only two representatives on Church of England’s governing body who are elected by the House of Laity, she said the Council was guilty of a “revisionist agenda” and “heretical teaching”. Their concerns for unity, she said, had “trumped the saving Gospel message of Jesus Christ.”
She concluded: “There are many like myself, who long for clear and courageous biblical leadership from the bishops of the Church of England and we will pray to this end.”
