Bazil Meade has been given a gong for his key role in popularising Gospel music in the UK

Reverend Bazil Meade, co-founder of the exuberant London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC), has been honoured with an MBE for his contribution to music.

The New Year’s honours list recognised Reverend Meade, whose work with LCGC began in 1982. The choir has released 13 joy-filled albums over 35 years.

Passionate faith

Reverend Meade said the choir was “formed from those who were passionate about their faith and were willing to take Gospel music into venues that many churches at that time dared not enter.”
