“Our weekly Bible study or prayer meetings are attended by more than half the church”

Lindfield Evangelical Free Church started in 1861 as a house church and then continued meeting in the Sewell Memorial Mission Hall in 1866, with the first pastor Arthur Ellem starting in 1911. The Church has had 14 pastors in its lifetime with some ups and downs on its way.

The church moved to its present premises on Chaloner Road, Lindfield, in 1937.

Pastor Mervyn Weeks and his wife Alison joined the church in November 2013, after an interregnum of five years, which had left a small nucleus congregation of around 15.  Over the past four years the church has grown to an average of 25 – 30 both morning and evening. Our weekly Bible study or prayer meetings are attended by more than half the church.  All this is due to the moving of the spirit through the teaching and the work of the leadership team.

The premises have been improved with a new entrance porch and disabled toilet being completed in the last month.  Our vision is to become more of a community church.

The Church is very outward looking and regularly supports Tear Fund, Mission Aviation Fellowship, Leprosy Mission, Mission to Europe and Compassion as well as the local groups Living Hope and Brighton & Hove City Mission.

We run a thriving Tots club and an older people’s lunch club. At the coffee morning, on the first Saturday of the month, a Christian book shop sends a selection of new books and CDs etc, and local churches are invited to this as there is now no book shop nearer than Hove.

Why not drop in one Sunday if you are in Lindfield; you will witness a thriving, growing church.
