Favourite Hymns of Praise hosted by Westergate Revival group, Jenesis Arts Centre, Bognor Regis – 30 November

Pam Rhodes, friendly and relaxed, entertained with stories of people she had interviewed during her reign as presenter of the BBC’s “Songs of Praise”.

Dolly Parton, she said, was a wonderful Christian, but having been told by her mother as a young girl that she couldn’t wear a short skirt to church – never went back!

A dab hand at interviewing the less well-known, Pam handled four testimonies by local people from different churches with tact and sensitivity. Real stories of God’s grace in desperate situations, from injury to homelessness with month -old-twins were living proof of God’s power to transform all our lives.

The band, made up of musicians from the Isle of Wight and across the South, was led by James Munro of Elim Church Bognor and they provided a special time of worship from well-known hymns to new choruses. Joining them was soprano Jane Weeden, who gave two wonderful solos, “Rejoice Greatly” from the “Messiah” and the more modern “Mary, do you know”, which led perfectly into the Advent season.
