SUSSEX PENSIONER Robert Figures, who is 83, joined a mission trip on 26 June to Zambia.
Robert joined one of Rev Mark Weeden’s regular visits to help train pastors. With a small team from Worthing, including Sally Hughes, who worked for Mark during his 12-year pastorship of the Worthing Tabernacle, they visited several schools during their fortnight away.
Keen to make a spiritual difference in what seemed to be a place of despair and poverty, one particular school they visited housed 70 “double orphans”, who had lost both parents to Aids or malaria. Robert found that, “Their faces were heavy and gloomy, with no hint of hope or joy. But Sally’s action choruses and Gospel songs made many smile, some for the first time, according to the headteacher.”
