The 72.2 per cent voter turnout for the EU referendum cannot represent ‘the will of the people’, since 5.4 million eligible adults were excluded from voting due to hasty preparation and deliberate omission.

Now 3 million newly eligible young people find themselves bound by decisions taken by their elders in which they could not participate. In our dysfunctional representative democracy, there are also 9 million people without a current address on the UK electoral roll.

Without due diligence by our Electoral Commission and our local authorities who remind voters of their legal obligations to vote and be fully informed, together with a change to proportional representation, we are truly lost.
