The veteran pilot and co-founder of the Festival of Light, which later became CARE (Christian Action, Research and Education), passed on aged 96 on 5 June.
Although he had been bedridden for several years, his spirit remained indomitable and his determination to ‘fight the good fight’, whether in WW2, when he left his native South Africa to volunteer for the RAF, or campaigning for the Christian heritage of Great Britain, his adopted country, was remembered with admiration and affection at a memorial service.
Attendees at the Worthing Tabernacle included Lyndon Bowring, director of CARE, which became the new name of the Festival of Light, Christian Voice director Stephen Green and veterans of MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship), for which Steve helped pioneer mission flights.
